Are the fitness facilities enough for us? The sports facilities in primary and secondary schools should be upgraded and opened up to citizens at low prices in after-school time, announced by CPPCC Committee.
“Most residents thought the community are lack of fitness centers." Professor Chen Yuanxin , member of the CPPCC and CPWDP, deputy director of Sports Department of CCNU, said that sports area per capita of Wuhan is only 1.43m2, and a large number of sports venues are mainly distributed in universities, so sports fields are extraordinary limited for residents, which shows a large gap between the reality and the national 15mins fitness circle standards.
“Except for that, major part of the investment in new primary and secondary schools goes to the sports facilities." Prof Chen believes that these sports facilities can be used as community fitness center, which not merely improve land-use efficiency but reduce the government investment in education as well.
“Therefore, we could build some indoor swimming pools or badminton court in some primary and secondary school, and upgrade it into Community Fitness Centers and high-standard school sports center by applying the PPP mode to attract private investments. These Fitness Center can be operated by social organizations, and it’s reasonable to charge free for teachers and students in the day time, and open to residents at low prices in after-school time to bring convenience to the
locals.”
