Introduction of School of Physical Education

Founded in 1950, the School of Physical Education at Central China Normal University (CCNU)is one of the earliest in China for nurturing prospective physical education teachers, coaches, and other sports talents. With over 60 years’ hard work and selfless dedication of generations, the school has become a nationally recognized physical education training and research centeroffering both undergraduate and graduate degrees to nearly 1600 students. It consists of the department of Physical Education、the department of Public Sports and Physical Activity, and Cultural Development Center of General Administration of Sport. 

Discipline Development

1997   Authorized to offer a master’s degree in Sports Education & Training

2002   Authorized to offer a master’s degree in Sociology of Sport Humanity

2006   Authorized to offer a doctoral degree in Sports Education & Training       

      Authorized to offer a master's degree in first class discipline of Sports Science ( Sociology of Sport Humanity  、Human Movement Science、Sports Education & Training、National Traditional Sports)

2008   Sports Education & Training was approved as the key subjects on HuBei provincial level

2011   Authorized to offer a doctoral degree in first class discipline of Sports Science  

2012   Approved to set up post-doctoral research mobile station in the Sports  Science(体育学)

Educational Degrees

The School of Physical Education is dedicated to preparing students to excel by combining the academic excellence with the practical experience. There are at present 108 staff members including 88 full-time teachers with 18 professorsand 55 associate professors. Many of them have been awarded in state, national, and international levels. Within the last three years, the school has been awarded to 15 National research projectswith the total amount of research grantexceeding 10 million Chinese Yuan.Our athletic teams, especially in artistic gymnastics and aerobics, have won over 20 world and national championships, while the school has been recognized multiple times as the role model of enhancing mass sports involvement. Additionally, the facility and equipment in the School of Physical Education is fully modernizedwith a variety of sports venues , such as multi-functional gymnasium、badminton venue、gym、martial arts training room、swimming pool 、 football pitch、basketball court 、volleyball court 、international standard track and field (indoor and outdoor) 、tennis court (indoor and outdoor ).  

Internationalization

School of Physical Education at CCNU has established close relationships with many key universities and research institutesfrom both home and abroad. The school has conducted multiple school-to-school student/teacher exchange programs and extensive academic collaboration with the universities from the US.,Canada, , Russia, France, New Zealand, Australia, Korea,Vietnam and other countries .As a way to enhance internationalization level and know cutting-edge research and teaching strategies in physical education, the school regularly invites internationally well-known scholars in physical education and sports to have research and teaching forums to the faculty and students each year. Also, with the invitation from universities abroad, we send our teachers and students out to share our research with our international colleagues. . 

Futureexpectations

For over six decades, We have never stopped in the face of trials and hardships. Now we are facing a brighter future, though we still have many responsibilities .We have to make our mind and stick to modern education philosophy with emphases on physical education teacher education by strengthening informationization and internationalization。The future goal of the school is to promote the construction of sports discipline continuously, form an efficient teaching platform with distinguishedteacher education character, and disseminate sports conceptions and humanistic caring actively. . All the faculty members and students are determined to make greater efforts to fulfillthe goals.
